For those of you who don’t know me, I am Amelia Harden-Wilson and it gives me great pleasure to introduce myself as the new President of FWABSE (Fort Worth Alliance of Black School Educators). I am extremely honored, as well as humbled to serve in this capacity for an organization that focuses on the education of African American children. To be able continue this venture and to lead other Educators in the process, is its own reward. Let me give you a little background information on myself, so we can get to know each other better. I am a native of Fort Worth, in addition to being a product of FWISD’s school system. I graduated from Trimble Tech High School in 1975. Unfortunately, I know that I may be telling my age now, but that’s ok. I graduated with lots of other people from high schools all over Fort Worth that same year, so I’m in good company. My husband and I just celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary in March. I have 4 children from a previous marriage, 2 boys and 2 girls, who are all products of FWISD’s school system as well. My two daughters are both college graduates. My eldest son will graduate from UTA Arlington in August and my youngest son, who just went back to college, needless to say, has a while to go. As for myself, I received my B.A. in Elementary Education with a Minor in Child Psychology from Texas Wesleyan University in 1998. Afterwards, I applied for and was granted the Juanita M. Cash Fellowship Award from Texas Christian University, where I received a M. Education in 2002. I began working in FWISD in 1992 as a Data and Attendance Clerk, while I attended school to become a teacher. When I completed my studies at TWU, I stopped working as a Data Clerk on a Friday and began my teaching career the following Monday, you can say it’s been non-stop ever since. I was a classroom teacher for 5 years, Instructional Specialist for 3, and an Assistant Principal for 2 years. At the present time I serve 580 students as the Principal at Greenbriar Elementary School located in southwest Fort Worth. In the coming weeks I will share with you my vision for FWABSE for this next school year, as well as dates for this year’s coming events. Again, let me say how amazingly honored I am to be your President for the coming year and I hope to see all of you in August (TBA) at our Annual Membership Drive Kick-Off. Sincerely, Amelia Harden-Wilson, President |
